Welcome to Technical Leadership Pearls!

TLPearls is the work of the talented people working at and with Relevant Software Corp, giving back ideas and experience to our professional community.   Each Pearl is intended to share a single thought of some value.

There are innumerable writings and studies in management – each industry and disciplines has its unique features and considerations.  But somewhere in the convergance of technical skills and management is Leadership – the art and science of getting things done thru the efforts of a Team.  In fact, there is an unbreakable relationship there.  Leadership and Teamwork.  One cannot exist without the other.

The inspiration for creating Tech Leadership Pearls comes from social media, and it’s universe of “fortune cookie” memes that offer 15-second thoughts on topics from A to Z – bundled into attractive images and pithy captions.  It must work at some level since there are gazillons of them in a constant feed across the Internet.  And they take a lot less time than writing a book.

So we began TLPearls to give our employees a way to give them voice and commentary about where we all spend most of our waking lives – at work — and let them be the thought leaders.  The common thread to string the Pearls is the intersection of business skills, technical skills, and people skills – or if you like, management, tradecraft, and psychology – that is,       Technical Leadership.

Admittedly, many of the Pearls are formed from the experience and written products by Mark E. Salesky, the founder and President of Relevant Software, and his three decades of experience managing technology projects.  A rough third of that experience comes from the US Army as Colonel Salesky studied and practiced Military Leadership skills. A lot of the people skills are grounded in leading soldiers.

But you may have a different take, and you are welcome to post comments, or even to propose a new Pearl of Tech Leadership insight.  The more the merrier.  But as a reader, commenter, or contributor, please accept them as offered –                                  for your reflection, in humility, as professionals and sometimes with a wink and grin.
